Our talk at the Ebike Future Conference 2022

The bicycle industry is undergoing some major changes recently. But where does innovation come from in turbulent times and how can new methodologies and technologies push bicycle design in the future? At the last Ebike Future Conference, Radiate Engineering & Design participated in a talk, discussing how to develop Ebikes more efficiently with a Simulation-Driven Design & Development process.

Magazine portrays Jonas Schmid from RADIATE

Velogeschichten.ch is the magazine of bicycle promotion in the canton of Zurich. The new issue features a portrait of Jonas Schmid. He tells us why the bicycle has become an indispensable companion in his everyday life and how RADIATE accompanies a bicycle product from the idea, through the development phase, to production.

Use of drones for doping control

Can anti-doping benefit from the use of drones? This is what our client RigiTech and the International Testing Agency (ITA) are going to find out. Together, they are on a mission and the goal is to test and develop innovative, faster and more environmentally friendly ways of transporting samples in anti-doping.

Find out more about this pilot project in the video.

Augmented Reality Manufacturing

How can new technology such as Augmented Reality facilitate the manual manufacturing of products made of fiber-reinforced composite materials?

In order to find out, Radiate Engineering & Design collaborated together with Rimon Technologies, which are developing and validating Augmented Reality applications. In the project, our engineer, Jan, is using special AR software combined with HoloLens 2 glasses to make the exact alignment and positioning of the materials directly visible on the component.

Check out the video below to see for yourself how this can increase quality and minimize errors using an AR Step-by-Step instruction.

Tom Pidcock wins the Nove Mesto XCO World Cup on Silverton SL wheels

British rider Tom Pidcock of the Ineos Grenadier team has won the 2021 Nove Mesto XCO World Cup. Pidcock chose the Syncros Silverton SL wheels for his bike setup, developed by Radiate Engineering & Design. Since the Ineos Grenadier’s bike manufacturer (Pinarello) has no mountain bike models in its catalogue, the cyclist has practically been given total freedom to choose the material he wants from all the brands on the market. In a video (as shown above) that the team released in early March 2021 he was testing all kinds of equipment – and for his final setup, he decided to use Silverton SL wheels.

We are very happy that Silverton SL finally scored the first victory in a World Cup!

What’s behind the Circleg Cycle

Ever wondered, how the prosthetic legs from our client Project Circleg are made? You can find it out in this short 2 minute explainer video which drives you through Circleg’s entire production cycle. A journey of a PET bottle transforming into a highly functional lower-limb prosthetic. Congratulations to this very informative “behind the process”-look.

Perspective Robotics launches the Fotokite Sigma in Europe

After helping numerous emergency departments throughout the United States, Radiate Client Perspective Robotics now brings its fully autonomous aerial intelligence product line, the Fotokite Sigma, to Europe. Designed for fire and emergency response, search & rescue, traffic management, infrastructure & event security, the Fotokite Sigma will help european firefighters and public safety teams to gather fully automatic situational awareness at emergency response sites.

The Fotokite Sigma comes with a lightweight fully carbon fiber airframe and can withstand rainy, snowy, and windy weather conditions while operating for up to 24 hours. Due to an optimized manufacturing process, Radiate has been able to produce small to medium size series of the Fotokite Sigma airframe in the heart of Zurich since 2018.

To accompany the launch in Europe, Perspective Robotics has released a brand new video that shows the Fotokite Sigma in full action.

Syncros Silverton SL: new wheels for the Scott-SRAM racing team

Big news: For 2021 and beyond the Scott-SRAM MTB racing team will ride Syncros Silverton SL wheels. Launched in 2019, the Silverton SL is a miracle of modern bike engineering.

Next to it’s extremely light weight, the wheelset offers performance benefits in terms of acceleration, cornering and tracking. Together with Scott Sports SA, Radiate Engineering & Design developed the Silverton SL from scratch, demonstrating, how technical limits can be shifted if innovative engineering ideas come into play.

For the development process, a specially equipped Scott Spark RC with modified axles and strain gauges was used during the test rides of the wheels. A central unit mounted on the bike which was connected to a laptop in the backpack of the rider collected valuable data of each test ride. The data was analyzed by engineering specialists at Radiate in order to improve the characteristics of the Silverton SL wheels.

As Nino Schurter from the Scott-SRAM MTB racing team puts it:

“The Syncros Silverton SL wheel is super light but the benefits don’t just stop here. The construction removes weight from the rim allowing for super fast acceleration. It’s also stiff allowing for great power transfer, tracking and in particular cornering. Perfect for World Cup racing.”

The team of Nino Schurter, Kate Courtney, Lars Forster and Andri Frischknecht will all ride the Silverton SL one piece carbon wheels from now on at the World Cup.

You can find out more about Silverton SL wheels including some behind the scenes of the development process in the video.

RigiTech performs first long range BVLOS delivery flight in Italy

We are happy to announce that our client RigiTech has, in collaboration with Leonardo and Telespazio, made history in Italy recently by performing long-range drone-based deliveries of healthcare material between two hospitals near Rome’s Fiumicino airport.  The RigiOne, the first generation drone with vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) has made this possible several consecutive times in a safe, fast and reliable manner.

Check out the video for more information about the flight.
