Workshop on Sustainability in the Bike Industry

We all know that the bicycle is an environmentally friendly means of transportation, but there is always room for improvement in terms of materials, production, durability and disposal. That’s why Radiate Engineering & Design is hosting a workshop on “Sustainability in the Bike Industry” – together with the sustainability experts from Milani Design – on 11 May during the Cycle Week that takes place in Zurich.

True to the motto “listen to the customer”, we want to collect ideas, wishes and opinions on how the bicycle industry could be given a sustainability boost. Our workshop offers the opportunity to find innovative solutions. Together, we will exchange ideas on these topics and develop ideas on how to promote sustainability in the bicycle industry.

Registration for the workshop (limited seats!) is open at the Cycle Week website.

New Project for SoFlow

The Swiss tech company SoFlow has been promoting micro-mobility since 2015 with high-quality e-scooters. With sales of more than 200,000 e-scooters, they feel encouraged to drive development and sales further in the next years. Even the investors from the Swiss TV show ‘Die Höhle der Löwen’ recognised the potential: at CHF 1.3 million, SoFlow got the biggest deal in the history of the TV show!

We are thrilled to announce that Radiate Engineering & Design has been assigned to a first project with SoFlow. As a leading engineering company, we are excited to collaborate with SoFlow in developing cutting-edge technology that will push the boundaries of micro-mobility.

We are looking forward to bringing our expertise and experience to the table and working closely with the team at SoFlow to create technology that is not only functional but also stylish and environmentally friendly. With this collaboration, we aim to make micro-mobility more accessible and convenient for people, and we believe that this partnership will take us a step closer to achieving our shared vision.

“Design Perspectives” at the Zurich University of the Arts

“Design Perspectives” is a series of events at the Zurich University of the Arts in which invited guests give students and interested parties an insight into design practice and highlight focal points of related disciplines that influence industrial design.

The next edition on the topic of “Design Perspectives: Bike Design or the bicycle as a fusion of the aspects design-manufacturing-function”, Jonas Schmid from Radiate Engineering & Design will participate, among others.

What is the significance of bike design? In which contexts does it play a role? Is the bicycle a technology driver and where will the journey go? Nicola Stäubli, Jonas Schmid and Martin Schütz will provide answers during a panel discussion. They will give an insight into their work as bike designers and shed light on the connection between design, production and function with the associated approaches and challenges.

  • Nicola Stäubli has been riding bikes since 1984 and designing them since 2019. He is a qualified architect, designer, passionate biker and ex-bike courier. He led product development and innovation at FREITAG and is inventor of the compact cargo bike MONoPOLE.
  • Jonas Schmid has been riding bikes since 1993 and designing them since 2010. He works in mechanical engineering at ETH and as a product developer and carbon and simulation expert. He is also a persistent biker and founder of Radiate Engineering & Design.
  • Martin Schütz has been riding bicycles since 1972 and designing them since 1993. He is a bicycle enthusiast, design engineer with a background in mechanical engineering and lecturer at ETH and ZHdK.

The event will take place on Tuesday, 21 March 2023 at 17:00 in room 5.T07 in the Toni Areal.
Admission is free of charge.

New Project for Elliptical Technologies

We are excited to start a new project on behalf of our client “Elliptical Technologies“, realizing a true vision: to develop a unique piece of sports equipment that combines running, cycling and cross-trainer in one device for outdoor training.

What makes this device special is that it feels like running in nature without having any impact on the body. With this innovation, athletes can enjoy their outdoor training without worrying about the impact on their joints and muscles.

The RADIATE team is excited about the challenge and looks forward to delivering a high-quality and innovative product.

Successful participation in the NTN Innovation Booster

The NTN Innovation Booster – Databooster (powered by Innosuisse) is a community with an open innovation culture, in which key players around data-based value creation work together to develop innovative ideas and explore new business areas and approaches.

RADIATE successfully applied and will participate in the NTN Innovation Booster to explore the potential of a disruptive AI Innovation project making bikes smart. In Collaboration with NTN and several other stakeholders, RADIATE will build an MVP to validate and showcase the feasibility of the innovation.

We are very excited – more to come, soon!

Never not cycling

When Nicola Stäubli was a kid, his mother said to him:  “You don’t care about anything that doesn’t have two wheels.”

Some years later, the story still holds true. In fact, the two wheels are still drive, desire and passion for the native Bernese who recently founded MONoPOLE, a brand for versatile electric cargo bikes. The whole story about Nicola, from the first free-spirited neighbourhood rounds on his BMX to the development of the first Toolbike, which combines the best of city bike, e-bike and cargo bike, can be read on the Website of our customer MONoPOLE.

Bicycle Product Development Assessment

We found out that by learning more about the needs of people and businesses behind our development projects we can deliver better solutions in order to meet our client’s goals. That’s why we just launched the “Bicycle Product Development Assessment“, a little questionnaire in order to assess the hidden potential, risks & opportunities for a bicycle development project.
So if you plan to develop a bicycle in the near future, here’s your chance to learn how you can optimize the product development process. Just follow the link, answer our questions and receive an assessment of the hidden potential, risks & opportunities for your next project.
We’re also happy to receive your feedback on this idea – just drop us a line by using our contact form 🙂
Greetings from the Radiate Bike Division Team.
