Together with the Schindler R&D team under the leadership of Volker Zapf, Radiate Engineering carried out an innovation workshop at Schindler. With around 10 participants, ideas for the improvement of the Schindler systems were developed during an afternoon. Various tools and techniques from the fields of applied improvisation and design thinking were used. Radiate thanks Schindler for the cooperation and the inspiring day.
On October 5, Radiate Engineering received approx. 30 guests for a Business Apéro at their office in Zurich. There was a lively exchange alongside oriental fingerfood, beer and wine. A highlight was surely the presentation of a prototype of the Deldro AG, represented by Reto Büttner. The innovative delivery drone was developed in cooperation with Radiate Engineering – the project is still in the test phase and is continuously developed further. Among the guests at the Apéro were numerous customers and business partners of Radiate Engineering. Among others, Patric Hug and Philipp Gerrits of Orthotec, Paul Remy of Scott, Marcel Vollmer of CWA, Pius Kobler of Milkit, Roland Haas of Haas ProjectConsulting and Michael Krohn of Formpol. Radiate Engineering thanks all guests and is looking forward to the next Apéro!
CADFEM (Suisse) AG is one of the pioneers of the application of numerical simulation in product development and one of the largest European suppliers of computer-aided engineering, as well as long-standing sales partner of the leading software producer ANSYS, Inc.
As part of a collaboration, CADFEM and Radiate will jointly carry out consulting projects in the field of FEM simulation. The goal of the collaboration is also to push forward the simulation-driven engineering in Switzerland and to increase the innovative power of Swiss companies.
Simon Grob, responsible for the simulation engineering at Radiate: “Simulations will be given even more importance in the future. We are pleased to work with CADFEM on a joint cooperation and to extend the know-how of Radiate in the field of numerical simulation in product development.”
Environment-conscious action and thinking has become quite important in recent years. The team around the ETH Zurich engineers from “ftero” has set itself the goal of developing an Airborne Wind Energy System – from the idea to an optimized prototype.
The students show with their project that the questions of the future energy supply can not only be answered by conventional technologies. The ftero focus project will be carried out at CMASLab, ETH Zurich, and will be presented to the public for the first time at the roll-out at ETH Zurich on 31.05.2017. In addition to the early prototypes, the first functional models LARA 1 and LARA 2 as well as the carbon wing CLARA will be introduced.
Radiate Engineering is the proud official bronze sponsor of the project and is happy about the success of ftero!
The use of carbon in the bike industry means maximum lightness on two wheels, but the application possibilities of composites are far from exhausted. So what is the state of the art in the bicycle industry and the innovative power of the composites industry? This question is addressed at the first-ever forum “Composites in the Bicycle Industry”, an event organized by the Carbon Composites e.V. Switzerland (CCeV).
Radiate Engineering will participate at the event in form of a lecture on “Competitive advantages through more efficient engineering”.
The forum “Composites in the Bicycle Industry” will take place on June 29th, from 9:30 am to 5:15 pm at the Gewerbemuseum Winterthur. Further information is available on the CCeV website.
The new cable railway in Stoos is the steepest cable car in the world, with up to 110% gradient. It takes you up to the Bergdorf Stoos at around 1300 m above sea level. In only 3 1/2 minutes it will transport locals and tourists alike to the Stoos mountain and back into the valley. The technical highlight: the cabins remain always horizontally despite the extreme gradient. An original cabin of the new cable railway can already be viewed and experienced in the Swiss Transport Museum in Lucerne.
Radiate Engineering has been contracted by CWA Constructions SA / Corp. in order to develop a test report of the Stoos cable railway according to the standard EN 13796-1.
We are looking forward to the new railway and the expected launch in December 2017!

Logistics & Distribution is the national industry event in Switzerland for intralogistics, distribution and e-logistics.
At this year’s show, a group of companies, including Radiate Engineering, successfully presented a new concept for a Swiss cargo drone. The concept was developed in cooperation with the companies AirRails, HS Composite und WiDV under the leadership of the Schweizerischer Verband Ziviler Drohnen (SVZD).
The new cargo drone is designed for the fast transport of smaller packages up to 2.5 kg and flies within optimized air corridors with a traveling speed of 60 km/h. All the safety systems required by The Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) are on board. The drone is operated by an easy to use and safe app on the smartphone.
Overall, the cargo drone is ideal for B2B applications and was therefore met with great interest from the industry at the Logistics & Distribution fair.
Further information on the new cargo drone can be requested by mail to info@drohnenverband.ch from the two board members Reto Büttner and Severin Leuenberger of the Schweizerischer Verband Ziviler Drohne.
Radiate is very happy to be part of the successful launch of this project, which will hopefully be a lot of fun in the future!
Worldwide and also in Switzerland the community which cultivates the open exchange of knowledge is growing. Professional open-innovation platforms such as Atizo, or the FabLab for the maker community were recently established. The philosophy of open-prototyping or open innovation is consciously delimited by the usual closed development processes, whose “exclusivity” by Schumpeter in 1942 was called “a substantial income for the innovator”. In contrast, the supporters of the “open” approach believe that the opening of the process significantly increases the potential for innovation. And this ultimately also helps the client of an innovation project. From the very beginning, Radiate Engineering was committed to the “open” concept. In its latest issue, the Technische Rundschau has dealt with the subject and has also written an article in which Radiate is featured.
The trekking bike “Papalagi” from MTB Cycletech, developed in collaboration with Radiate Engineering, has survived its first endurance test. Trekkingbike’s chief editor Tom Bierl took it on a 1’600 kilometer-long tour and extensively tested the Papalagi.
His conclusion: “The Papalagi purred without the slightest problem on the challenging tour. Rarely has a bike inspired me as instantly as the new Papalagi. ”
Together with MTB Cycletech, we are very happy about the successful test result!
